The Riviera Maya, is located in the north-east cost of the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo, México. The women in my family took our 1st ever trip together, it was a mother daughter trip with my grandmother and her 4 daughters, me and 2 of my cousins (there are a few other daughters that missed out)
It is a beautiful location with less tourists than Cancun but the downfall is the long drive from the airport in Cancun. We stayed at an awesome all inclusive resort with amazing food and a beautiful location. We had a wonderful relaxing bonding family time together and wish we could do a trip like this more often.
The beaches are amazing but it is also important to check out some of the local sites. We went to Chichen Itza and a jungle trek to see a pyramid in Coba, during the drive out to Chichen Itza the tour bus passed thru many small Mexican towns and it was such a stark contrast between the fancy resorts and the way the locals lived.
When going on excursions to the ruins etc. it is best to use a tour company to get there.
